Henrik Fisser

2018 EAGLE student

Henrik Fisser was born close to Hanover in the north of Germany and did his Bachelor in Geography in Cologne. His focus was on GIS, Remote Sensing and physical geography. During this time he did an internship at the DLR Earth Observation Center (EOC) in Oberpfaffenhofen where he contributed to the CatchMekong project in the Land Surface Department. Furthermore, he spent five months in rural Uganda with the German Development agency (GIZ) where he supported the basic spatial data collection and gave GIS workshops to spatial planners of the local government. In his Bachelor thesis Henrik analyzed the land cover change of the Ugandan region Karamoja where he did his internship.

As a Master student in EAGLE he would like to gain further experiences in programming and radar remote sensing but also deepen his analysis capabilities of optical data. His overall goal is to apply his expertise to the benefit und protection of earth and humans.

Apart from remote sensing he is passionate about hiking, cycling and espresso.

Truck Detection using Sentinel-2 data

In the context of the COVID-19 Custom Script Contest organized by ESA and Euro Data Cube Henrik Fisser developed a Sentinel-2 truck detection method. It relies on an effect that spectrally exposes moving objects of a certain size in Sentinel-2 data. This effect is caused by the layout of its Multispectral Instrument (MSI). In the following article he will give you an explanation of the effect, the method development and his experience upscaling the detection to whole EU extent for integration into the ESA RACE dashboard.
