Temesghen Sereke
2024 EAGLE Student
Hi, I am Temesghen, from Eritrea a country in the north easter part of Africa. I hold a BA in Geography from University of Asmara in Eritrea and MSc in Cartography and Geoinformatics form Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography in Moscow, Russia. Throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I have studied and delved into various subjects such as Aerial Photo Interpretation and Remote Sensing, Cartography, Map Use and Interpretation, GIS, Computer Technologies in Cartography, Land Resource Mapping, Mapping Software, 3D modelling, Space Natural Resource Management Monitoring, Web technologies and others. These areas have enhanced my understanding in Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics.
I have worked at various institutions in Eritrea, primarily at Eritrean Institute of Technology as Graduate Assistant and Adi-keih College of Adi-Keih as Lecture II in the department of Geography. So far, my research has primarily focused on analyzing the dynamics of Land use Land cover (LULC) changes and their relationship with climatic variables. I have published several research papers, including “Assessment of NDVI Variations in Responsible to Climate Change in the Horn of Africa”. My academic background and professional experience have given me hands-on expertise with a variety of GIS and Remote Sensing software, including ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI, MapInfo, TerrSet, Google Sketch, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and cloud computing like Google Earth Engine. Most of the time I have worked with freely available satellites, such as Landsat and Sentinel, and occasional PlanetScope.
Since completing my MSc, I have been seeking an opportunity to enhance my programming skills in geospatial technologies. This is why I was particularly drawn to the Eagle program, which integrates programming with geospatial science- an approach that is rare but highly valuable. My primary goal is to strengthen my programming capabilities, particularly in analyzing remote-sensed data. The well-structured curriculum outlined on the EAGLE website further motivated me to pursue this program. Moreover, given the rapid advancements in Earth Observation technologies, I believe that participating in the EAGLE program will equip me with the necessary skills needed to stay ahead in this field, both now and in the future. I consider myself fortunate to be part of the 9th EAGLE generation, as each and every member of the group values and believes in cooperation and teamwork.
In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, and soccer especially English Premier League. I also love playing football, running and enjoy chatting with friends.
