Silja Buschko
2024 EAGLE Student
Hello, I’m Silja. Originally, I’m from Kiel, but I moved to Würzburg for a voluntary ecological year and have stayed here ever since. After studying communication design for a few semesters, I decided to change my path and switched to geography, focusing on physical geography and remote sensing.
During my studies, I became increasingly fascinated by remote sensing due to its endless application possibilities. I also find it incredibly creative how others combine non-remote sensing data with remote sensing techniques to analyze complex processes and gain new insights in a sophisticated way. It seems like such a powerful tool to me. That’s why I chose the EAGLE program — it offers the perfect environment to expand my knowledge of remote sensing and explore advanced geospatial analysis techniques through hands-on training.
I am particularly interested in the use of remote sensing for risk assessment related to natural hazards, crisis management, and land surface dynamics. I can’t think of any other method that allows us to gather so much valuable information to help in these fields. In the future, I would like to develop my career in this direction.
Beyond my studies, I express my passion for design and art not only by scrolling through the Copernicus Browser and creating visualizations from remote sensing data but also through hands-on creative activities such as renovation, woodworking, textile work, and drawing.
