Sebastian Rothaug
2024 EAGLE Student
Hey, I’m Sebastian 🙂  I grew up in a tiny village near Würzburg. In my bachelor’s degree, I studied Geovisualisation at the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg (THWS). From a young age, I have been interested in exploring nature and understanding the environmental processes of our Earth. For my bachelor’s studies, I spent my internship semester in Innsbruck, Austria. During this time in the heart of the Alps, I fueled my passion for cold environments, mountainous landscapes and nature. Additionally, I participated in an ERASMUS Blended Intensive Program in Seville, Spain. There I studied, together with a group of international students, the impacts of climate change on the Doñana National Park in Andalusia. This research program provided me with valuable insights into arid regions and land surface dynamics in coastal areas.
These previous experiences mainly contributed to my decision starting the EAGLE program. The opportunity to study within a great international community and network, combined with a diverse and individualized course plan and the close and personal connection to cutting-edge research at the EORC and the DLR, ultimately led me to choose this unique master’s program.
I’m looking forward to immersing myself in environmental and ecological topics, from the Arctic to the Tropics. In particular, I am interested in how climate change affects these different regions. Furthermore, I’m excited to learn more about the capabilities of radar, as well as the use of Artificial Intelligence approaches in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation.
In my free time, I enjoy outdoor sports to recharge my energy. I like everything from jogging and cycling to hiking and skiing, as well as playing different kinds of team sports with friends. In the future, I would love to combine my studies and work with my passion for traveling, exploring new cultures, historical sites, and landscapes across our Earth.
