2024 EAGLE Student

I am Mariam from Accra, Ghana, holding a bachelor’s degree in Geomatic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, where I studied remote sensing in my 2nd and 3rd academic years. After graduating, I worked for a year with the Department of Urban Roads under the Ghana Ministry of Roads and Highways, where I appreciated how remote sensing can be effectively leveraged in the road construction sector for mapping, monitoring, and project evaluation. It exposed me to the practical challenges in urban infrastructure development and how earth observation can contribute to more efficient planning and management.

Earth observation provides a powerful means of analyzing various patterns and dynamics occurring on our planet. It offers a unique perspective that enables us to tackle challenges head-on and develop innovative solutions, particularly in areas such as disaster risk management, hydrology, and environmental research. Moreover, remote sensing facilitates studies in remote and inaccessible regions, such as the Arctic and high-altitude mountain ranges, where traditional data collection methods are impractical. I find that the EAGLE master’s program will equip me with the advanced knowledge and technical skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to these fields.  .

I enjoy working both collaboratively and independently. In my leisure time, I love reading, watching anime, and exploring new recipes, as I have a deep passion for cooking. I strongly believe that no matter where you come from or who you are, if you have a goal, you should pursue it relentlessly. Mistakes are part of the learning process, and we grow by embracing them rather than fearing them.
