Florian Dialer
2024 EAGLE Student
Hi, I am Florian from Vienna, Austria. I feel very fortunate to have grown up there most of my life. Before starting the EAGLE program, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Geography at the University of Vienna, where I developed a deep interest for GIS and the remote sensing field. Before my studies, I worked with a startup that focused on connecting people through social media in real life and making it easier to find new friends in a new city.
Remote sensing offers such an unbelievable variety of applications, which is why I wanted to look closer into this domain. I am eager to apply my skills to analyzing both natural as well as human-made environments, like identifying flooded or flood prone areas or understanding bark beetle dynamics in forests. EAGLE therefore felt like a great opportunity to deepen and widen my knowledge substantially. In the future, I hope to help guide and push decision-making processes on how we as a species can protect our planet and improve our lives.
Additionally, I am also very interested in aviation and hope to soon be able to afford and obtain my PPL (Private Pilot License). For the remote sensing field, I hope that great temporal coverage and high geometric resolution sensors like WorldView-4 will become more and more available for Earth Observation scientists for creating more detailed and comprehensive information products for a better future.
