David Voellner
2024 EAGLE Student
Hi I’m David, from Germany, more precise from Heilbronn. I moved to my new hometown Würzburg already in 2017. My academic background differs from that of most of my fellow EAGLEs as I got a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering prior to this EAGLE master’s program. Parallel to my previous master I started the geography bachelor here in Würzburg, where I had the chance to attend Tobias’ remote sensing lectures. It was there that I discovered my fascination for remote sensing and the variety of its possible applications.
Due to my background as civil engineer, I am very keen on learning more about urban remote sensing applications and its benefits for the growing urban population worldwide. As a future scientist of my generation I think that all the environmental aspects should always be subject of our research activities and education programs. That’s why I am also looking forward to gain as much knowledge as possible out of the wide range of courses we are being offered in the fields of environmental topics.
Currently I am combining my knowledge about civil engineering and urban remote sensing as a research assistant. I am working in a project where we assess the effects of heat on human in urban context with high resolution drone-based imagery, providing decision-makers with necessary information for planning processes.
Beyond my studies and working life I enjoy bouldering and climbing, love to play beach volleyball and to climb up the hill to the EAGLE department with my gravel bike.
