Arthur Dreher
2024 EAGLE Student
Hello, my name is Arthur and I grew up in the southwest of Germany in a small town called Ravensburg. My previous study programs during my bachelor’s degree were Chinese Studies as a major and Applied Geoinformatics as a minor at the University of Trier. After studying China Business and Economics at the JMU in Würzburg for one year, I decided to follow my passion and focus on Earth Observation and Remote Sensing for my master’s degree. However, I am still very interested in the Greater China region, where I spent about two years since high school (mainly in Taiwan and Hangzhou), always trying to improve my Chinese.
Coming back to remote sensing, I currently have a strong interest in SAR data analysis and UAV research – two fields that may seem a bit contradictory at first, but I believe they both offer exciting opportunities for environmental monitoring and disaster assessment. I hope to explore how different Earth observation technologies can be combined to study land cover changes, climate risks, or post-disaster dynamics, especially in mountainous or coastal regions.
In the future, I would like to work in applied research or with an organization focused on sustainable land use, environmental resilience, or climate change mitigation through geospatial technologies. My broader motivation is to contribute to a more sustainable and informed approach to environmental management. Thanks to my stays abroad, I have learned to adapt to different cultural contexts and to work effectively in international environments, and my future motivation is to one day contribute to slowing down climate change.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, photography, tennis, traveling, and spontaneous camping trips.
