Viktoria Veith
2024 EAGLE Student
I grew up in a small village right by the Neckar River, heading towards Heidelberg, before making my way to Würzburg for my studies. Initially, I studied to become a teacher, but after diving into Geography as one of my subjects, I quickly changed to pursue a bachelor’s degree in that field instead. It was during this time that I heard about the EAGLE Masters program and instantly knew that I wanted to join the program to learn more.
I’m fascinated by the ocean and believe that marine conservation is a crucial issue we must address. Thats why I’m eager to learn more about how we can examine and protect our seas with remote sensing techniques.
Additionally, I’m passionate about leveraging geospatial technologies to support humanitarian efforts. One pressing concern is forced migration and the dire conditions in which refugee camps are often established. I would like to explore these informal settlements so that humanitarian aid can be effectively implemented, potentially contributing in a small way to improving the situation.
As there are so many possibilities to use remote sensing and learn more about nature, humanity and how everything changes, I hope that with making the master, I can find out what fits me best.
Outside of my studies, I love spending time with friends, discovering new cafes and restaurants, or simply enjoying a glass of wine together. Like many people, I’m trying to stay active, so I’ve signed up for a yoga class and enjoy going for runs or leisurely walks while listening to a good podcast. Since I spend quite a bit of time in front of screens, I’m rediscovering my creative side while knitting and cherishing moments spent in nature.
