Lukas Regensburger
2024 EAGLE Student
Hi, I’m Lukas, coming from a village in eastern Bavaria near the city of Regensburg.
I can recall being fascinated with the surface of our Earth and how to show this in detailed maps since my early school years and even before. Determined to let this interest become a profession, I chose to do my Bachelor’s degree in Geodesy at the College of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden, which included an internship at an office for land surveying tasks.
During the process of writing my final thesis, which covered the topic of assessing volcanic activity with remote sensing data, I was starting to develop arising interest in the vast field of satellite-based earth observation and its possibilities – which, along with the chance to study in a young and international environment, eventually was decisive for pursuing a Master’s degree in the EAGLE course.
Now, at the University of Würzburg, I feel motivated to get in touch not only with the scientific community, but also with new kinds of working environments, ranging from the microcosmos of coding software up high to the mountainous regions of the Alps and beyond – one day maybe even to remote areas like the Arctic …? Regardless of in where I will find my occupation in the future, I’m looking forward to utilize the practical experiences I’m gaining to expand existing methods for observing natural processes and to find new ways to visualize scientific results.
When I’m not crouching in front of my desk, one may expect me to be either playing an instrument, cooking, or spending time outside on my bike and occasionally also in hiking boots.
