Lukas Fronzeck

2024 EAGLE Student

Hey, I’m Lukas.

I grew up in a town in southern Bavaria and moved to Würzburg for my geography bachelor in 2019.

During the bachelor my interest in remote sensing grew and especially through an internship at the Max-Planck-Institute in Radolfzell (and nature documentaries) I found my love for animal (movement) monitoring. Apart from this niche interest, I’m very interested in the whole field of biodiversity and ecology. That’s why I wrote my bachelor thesis about hedges in Lower Franconia and the Small-Woody-Feature-Layer of Copernicus.

Additionally, I have a big interest in geomorphology and natural hazards (shoutout to Martina Wilde for the great landslide monitoring course).

I applied for the EAGLE program, because it will hopefully provide and teach a lot of useful tools and methods for my future working life. At least that’s what older EAGLEs told me (and they know the drill, right?).

Next to all the software, especially the lectures on animal monitoring and the variety of seminars really caught my eye. And lastly, I also wanted to stay in Würzburg as I feel at home here.

My goals for the future? Schauen wir mal, was wird…

Apart from studying, I’m active in the geography student council and also in GeoDACH (representation of German-speaking geography students).

Furthermore, I like doing sports (gym, running, taekwondo) and just normal student stuff like going out with friends, being in nature and watching youtube (unique, I know).

I’m also passionate about music, but only on the listening side (I’m always open for giving or receiving music recommendations).

My favourite satellite is Landsat 7 because of the scan line error (basically an inside-joke with some of my bachelor friends).

And to end this text, here is a fun fact about me: I have weak synaesthesia, so numbers appear to have colours for me.
