Lena Nill
2024 EAGLE Student
Hi, I’m Lena! Originally from Hamburg, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Ecosystem Management at the University of Göttingen. This interdisciplinary program provided me with a broad foundation across forestry, agriculture, and geoscience.
My passion lies in enhancing ecosystem resilience in the face of climate change. During my studies, I first explored the concept of agroforestry, which led me to participate in a student-led research trip across France, the Netherlands, and England to study agroforestry systems firsthand. Additionally, I spent three months in Bolivia interning at a research institute in the Andes, where I focused on agroforestry systems in arid regions. This experience deepened my understanding of how sustainable land-use practices can improve ecosystem stability under challenging environmental conditions.
At the same time, I developed a strong interest in remote sensing, particularly its ability to analyze large-scale environmental phenomena. What excites me most about this technology is its potential to provide critical insights into making ecosystems more sustainable and resilient. This passion ultimately led me to specialize in remote sensing, aiming to leverage its capabilities for ecological and climate-related research.
Beyond environmental applications, I am also keen on exploring the role of remote sensing in humanitarian aid, particularly in relation to conflict, migration, and disaster response.
Outside of my professional interests, I have a deep love for the outdoors and enjoy rock climbing, hiking, biking, and surfing. I’m also passionate about languages, music, and dance, which allow me to explore different cultures.
